So, what are the different T-shirt styles?

Don’t know what a boat neck classic fit long-sleeve T-shirt is? You’re not alone. There are three parts to T-shirt ID – the neckline, the fit, and the sleeve length. Ready to become a pro?

Crewneck T-shirts

The most popular style of T-shirt. Also known as the classic T-shirt. Apparently the name came from a style of jumper that rowers used to wear. A crewneck features a high neckline usually with some ribbing around the neck to help keep its shape. It’s a super versatile style and a total wardrobe staple. Festivals? Check. Pub quizzes? Check. Date night? Check.

V-neck T-shirts

It sounds fairly obvious, but a V-neck T-shirt has a V-shaped neckline in the front, dipping down a bit. The depth of the V can be different depending on what you like. This style is popular with people who have round faces (like a certain ex-Mayor of London, ex-PM, Boris Johnson) as they can help to give an elongated look. But they’re also good if you hate the feeling of wearing high-necked collars.

Polo neck T-shirts

Looking to add a little bit of formality to your casual outfits? Polo shirts are the answer. They feature a collar and a button placket down the front of the shirt – usually only a few buttons long. They’re made from comfortable fabrics because they were originally designed for athletes such as golf and, surprise, surprise, polo players.

Henley T-shirts

Also called Y-necks (because the neckline and button placket look like a Y). Apparently Henleys are so-called because they were the uniform of rowers on the Henley-on-Thames river. They’re pretty casual but can give a more put-together look to your outfit than just a plain T-shirt. And often help accentuate your features – you won’t catch us complaining about that.

Scoop neck T-shirts

More casual and rugged, with a “gives zero Fs” style. The neckline on a scoop neck is kind of like a crew neck but bigger. Scoopier. And usually comes down past your collarbones. It’s a good choice if you don’t like your T-shirt showing above the neckline of a jumper.

Boat neck T-shirts

Boat necks have high, wide, horizontal necklines that go right across your collarbones. They’re most common in womenswear but can be found in menswear, too. They can have a more elegant silhouette, so are great for wearing to fancier occasions. Like your mate Dave’s sister’s summer BBQ or something. Don’t forget the crate of Beavertown!

Different T-shirt sleeves

Long sleeve T-shirts

Sleeves. That are long. Long-sleeved T-shirts have sleeves that go down to your wrists (but they can be longer if that’s the style). And that’s pretty much all there is to it. They’re good winter staples.

Short sleeve T-shirts

Who likes short sleeves? We like short sleeves! Short-sleeved T-shirts have sleeves that are… well, you get it. The hem of these sleeves can sit anywhere between your elbow and your shoulder and still be considered a short-sleeved T-shirt.

3/4 sleeve T-shirts

Just like Goldilocks, if long sleeves are too long and short sleeves are too short, ¾ sleeves might be just right. They go about ¾ of the way down your arm, unsurprisingly, hitting at about halfway down your forearm. They’re great for keeping cuffs out of your way without needing to roll up your sleeves and are a bit warmer than a short sleeve.

A newbie to the world of Beavertown. Our slim fit tees, also known as mini tees, feature a more body-hugging silhouette.
