Secret Santa Beer Gifts FAQs

There are lots of websites that dish out Secret Santa names and allow you to make some kind of wish list or give hints about what you’d like. If you’re more old-school and picked names out of a literal hat, put together some kind of community white board, list, Slack thread, or smoke signal morse code of everyone’s likes and dislikes so the Santas can shop in secret.

People love a good mystery. Getting a gift from someone secret is a fun way to give a gift – everyone gets something that way. And usually it fits within a budget so no one feels the pressure of giving an extravagant gift if they can’t afford it.

There are plenty of ways to make Secret Santa more fun.

  • Pick a theme – think things like “items that fit inside a shoe box”, “unicorns”, or “decor you don’t want your granny seeing”. Or maybe some more normal themes. Go wild.
  • DIY – Are your mates kind of crafty? Put a rule in place that all Secret Santa gifts must be homemade for a bit of fun.
  • Let’s Get Digital – If your friendship group is into video games, send each other digital copies of a game they should really play instead of a physical gift. More eco-friendly that way too.
  • Do a White Elephant gift exchange instead – Kind of Secret Santa but not. Everyone buys a gift (the best ones are weird or unusual in some way) and wraps it. The gifts are piled in a communal pile and everyone draws a number to decide the order you go in. The first person chooses a gift and unwraps it. The next person can either steal that gift or choose their own to unwrap. (Each gift can only be stolen once per turn). After everyone has had a turn and all gifts are opened, you go round again in order and if anyone has a gift stolen, they then get to steal one as long as that gift hasn’t been stolen already that round (Still with us?). Once someone decides not to steal anything, the game is over. Enjoy whatever weird thing your mate Dave brought.

The age-old question. Try to ask someone who knows them better than you do about what they like. Or risk it for a chocolate biscuit and get them some cool Beavertown stuff like a t-shirt or some of our beer glasses. Everyone wears clothes and drinks things.

Beer is a great Secret Santa gift as long as the person is willing and able to drink it. Just make sure you check that they are able to drink alcohol and that they actually like beer. Otherwise maybe get them something else (think skull tote bag or tumbler glass).
